The day before Mother's Day was a perfect day to share a beautiful high tea to raise funds for the Trudy Crowley Foundation. The Trudy Crowley Foundation was formed in the memory of Mackay woman Trudy Crowley, who sadly passed 3 years ago from ovarian cancer, supported and surrounded by loved ones.
The Foundation is dedicated to making sure that no woman in the North Queensland region of Whitsundays and Mackay faces Ovarian Cancer alone.
The lovely High Tea was the first introduction, for many in Airlie Beach, to the beautiful work that the foundation do to support women in the region. There is something so special about coming together as a community with care and kindness and with the common goal to support other woman and families. Stories were shared by Nurse Rosie and councilor Rebecca, who both put their love and heart into this beautiful foundation. Their stories were heartfelt and inspiring.
We gratefully thank the team at Fish D'Vine for the lovely catering and also Taste Whitsundays for donating the champagne on arrival just to add to the day.
Anyone who follows My Giving Table will know that we love to support the smaller community based charities, that so often run on more love than money. These organisations generally make every dollar they receive work to its fullest. Donations are appreciated and indeed essential to keep their valuable support services going.
Our day was a wonderful, enriching afternoon with many woman making new friends and new connections, as well as enjoying catch ups with old friends. There were smiles and a few tears in the eyes as we all took time to reflect on losing loved ones and how to better support our sisters, mothers, daughters friends and even those we do not know, who are facing this silent cancer that quite often goes un-diagnosed until it is too late.
As Amanda Camm MP so poignantly noted - this cancer has symptoms that are simply common experiences of being a woman. Common symptoms of unexplained weight loss or gain, excessive fatigue, persistent abdominal bloating, unusual bowel changes, pain when making love and low iron levels to name a few, which makes it so easy to miss the early signs.
If you would like to know more about the good work of the Foundation or indeed need support or assistance for you or a loved one you can reach out to the beautiful group of woman at the Trudy Crowley Foundation.
We also encourage you to host your own high tea or dinner party through, My Giving Table, to raise funds and have fun. It is as simple as picking a date and time to host a party, we set up a unique event page for you and a link to share to invite friends. Your friends RSVP and pay through the secure link to come and attend your party. As a host you donate your time, the catering and your home or venue for the party. Your friends pay an amount, chosen by you, with funds raised going directly to the charity of your choice. You can see examples of other great hosted events at My Giving Table -Our Stories.
If you would like to know more please just reach out. We hope to encourage several new hosts to raise funds for the Trudy Crowley Foundation to continue their valuable work, could that be you?
A big thankyou to all who attended and shared the day with us. Your support was greatly appreciated.
